Libraries Unlimited
Founded in 2016, Libraries Unlimited is the charity which runs the public library service in Devon and Torbay serving a population of around 1.1 million. We have a year-round programme of cultural events and activities, support for local businesses and entrepreneurs, wellbeing initiatives and educational provision. We are commissioned by Devon County Council and Torbay Council, and drawing extra support from a variety of funders, partners, and collaborators. Libraries are one of the few remaining free community spaces committed to promoting inclusivity and reducing inequality. We tackle many fundamental issues that our communities face today, including education and social inequalities, skills gaps, loneliness and isolation. In less than seven years we’ve brought ideas, imagination, knowledge and creativity to more than 97,000 people across Torbay and Devon We provide free essential services, including: warm-banks in winter, unique reading challenges to combat the literacy gap, IT support, work clubs, a ‘Home Library’ service for those who are housebound, and well–being events and groups including Sensory sessions, menopause cafes, dementia cafes, wellbeing and walking groups and conversation classes for refugees. Our libraries are so much more than books – they are dynamic and active, supporting their local communities in as many ways as possible. Whether through baby weigh facilities, work clubs or knit and natter groups – we’re here, and we’re free to all. With your support, we will continue to tackle fundamental issues that our communities face today, including education and social inequalities, skills gaps, loneliness, and isolation.
